The demo is close to completion. It does a good job at highlighting the core gameplay loop. Devoid V1 (short for version 1) has plenty of action. Keyboard and mouse movement feels smooth. The player now has access to a weapon with a primary and secondary attack. There are core enemies. The shuttle also has a fully functional fuel tank, a health, and shield status all of which the player will need to keep an eye on.
If you missed the previous blog post “Lift Off” it goes into more detail about the demo gameplay.
Ultimately, the grand vision for Devoid is to experience the unknown… vanquishing evil, while navigating the stars to find a way back home. The game will provide moments that'll have you flying around waves of enemies on a deadly battlefield, while minutes later peacefully cruising through a colorful nebula collecting debris needed to upgrade your shuttle.
Once the demo is finished the Luminous Bits team will facilitate playtests to gauge interest and figure out what aspects need to be better tailored.
Until next time,
-Charles
